Elevated Temperatures and the Work Environment

With the recent heat wave, supervisors and employees are being asked to be vigilant about their work environment. Weather conditions have exceeded the normal summertime temperatures for which many of our air conditioning systems are designed. Air conditioning equipment is operating at maximum capacity and in some areas this may not be sufficient to maintain a comfortable work environment. The indoor temperatures and humidity levels in some buildings may become elevated such that some individuals in the workplace may experience significant discomfort or other heat-related conditions.

Supervisors are asked to exercise their judgment and flexibility in allowing employees to relocate to a cooler area, increase break times, leave work and/or work from home as appropriate where conditions have become overly uncomfortable.
