Submission of research grant applications by members of CUPE 3902 Unit 3

Further to my October 12, 2006 memo, I wish to advise you that the University has confirmed to CUPE 3902 Unit 3 that we will continue to follow the existing guidelines regarding Principal Investigator Eligibility, (http://www.research.utoronto.ca/for-researchers-administrators/applying-for-funding/eligibility-to-be-a-pi/). We confirmed to the union that any individual who meets the guidelines, including sessional lecturers, continues to be among those employees of the University who may, in exceptional circumstances, be approved as eligible to be a Principal Investigator. Approval of eligibility must be provided by the Dean in response to a written request from the sessional lecturer’s Chair or Academic Director which addresses six criteria as set out in the guidelines.

Specifically, this means that individuals, including members of CUPE 3902 Unit 3 deemed eligible in accordance with these guidelines may submit research applications through the University.

This affirmation of the continuation of existing guidelines has led to the resolution of the Unfair Labour Practice allegation filed by CUPE against the University.
