Re: | Online only access to University of Toronto pay statements launching October 2014 |
Since March 2014, all employees at the University of Toronto have had access to view their pay statement online through Employee Self-Service (ESS). With ESS, employees can:
- View their pay statements online approximately two days before the pay deposit date;
- Appointed employees can view any one of their pay statements issued by the University; and,
- Non-appointed employees can view any one of their 12 most recent pay statements issued by the University, so long as these were within the last three years.
As part of the University of Toronto’s commitment to supporting a sustainable workplace, Central Payroll Services will soon be discontinuing paper pay statements for all employees who still receive them.
To access their online pay statements, employees must log in to Employee Self-Service (ESS).
The login page for ESS can be found on the Human Resources & Equity website.
When will my paper pay statement be discontinued?
Employees will receive online only access to their pay statements in two waves: October 2014 and January 2015. Please use the chart below to view the implementation schedule for each employee group.

What is Employee Self-Service (ESS)?
Employee Self-Service (ESS) is a confidential and secure website that allows employees to have access to their pay statements online.
To be eligible to log in and access your statements, you must be actively employed at the University or have had payment sometime within the past six months.
How do I access Employee Self-Service (ESS)?
Access and resources on how to log in to Employee Self-Service can be found on the ESS FAQ page.
Non-appointed employees must log in to ESS using their UTORid and Password.
Appointed employees must log in to ESS using their User ID and Password.
Employees who are unsure which login to use, or need assistance obtaining their UTORid, User ID, or password, should contact their HR Divisional Office.
More information about which login to use is also available at Accessing ESS.
Viewing and Printing Pay Statements
Electronic pay statements can be produced and implemented as a replacement for paper pay statements provided that employees have private access to view and print them. For those employees who do not have daily access to a computer at work or at home, the University will provide those employees access to a computer and printer for the purposes of reviewing and printing a copy of their online pay information privately and free of cost.
Access can be obtained between the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (4:30 p.m. from July 1st to Labour Day,) by visiting the Central Human Resources Office located on the St. George Campus, 8th Floor, 215 Huron Street.
Employees may also make arrangements with their Divisional HR Office or their Supervisor to confidentially view and print their pay statements at a mutually convenient and agreed upon time during their breaks and lunch.
