City of Toronto Inside Workers CUPE Local 79 will be in a legal strike position at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday February 20th. “Inside Workers” include those working in City of Toronto-run child care centres.

On-campus child care services are not affected.

U of T Parents with children attending a City of Toronto child care centre will need to make alternate child care arrangements in the event of a strike, and we very much appreciate the effort you will make to be flexible and accommodate these arrangements.

We’d like to remind employees that the University has an agreement with Kids & Company to provide emergency backup child care services for children ages 6 months to 12 years. All of Kids & Company GTA child care locations are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. U of T employees can purchase the emergency service for $60 per day, per child and / or an annual membership for $350 for up to 15 visits, to any Kids & Company location.

Kids & Company has rented additional space to accommodate the expected increase for child care in the event of a strike by the City inside workers.

This expanded service will be available at many of their 20 Greater Toronto Area locations. Employees must register their child(ren) online prior to using services at https://www.kidsandcompany.com. When registering, you will be asked to choose your company. Staff and faculty are asked to select ‘University of Toronto – Employees’ (there is also a ‘University of Toronto – Student’ option). Please contact a location site directly after registering to confirm if space is available on a particular day. If you have questions, you can contact Julie Attardi, Office Manager at Kids & Company at 905.771.1153 x 1000 or jattardi@kidsandcompany.com
