Honouring the 2014 – 2015 University of Toronto Retirees

April 15, 2015

On April 14, 2015, we celebrated the careers of 141 members of the University of Toronto community. Held at Hart House, this annual reception celebrates the faculty & staff of the University as they move towards their next adventure: retirement

Of this year’s group of 141 retirees, 53 individuals have worked at the University for more than 30 years (and 17 have been here more than 40 years!).

Angela Hildyard, Vice-President, Human Resources & Equity, spoke to the retirees at the reception. “At this time when the University is busy preparing for its spring convocation ceremonies, it seems very appropriate to celebrate you – our own graduating ‘Class of 2014-2015′. We’ve witnessed the phenomenal rise of the student population as well as the University’s footprint, not only physically with the growth of our campuses, but on the international stage through our research, our partnerships and our outreach. Each one of you we’re honouring today has played a role in this growth and this legacy of our U of T and for that we are grateful.”

The Honourable Michael Wilson, Chancellor of the University of Toronto, posed with retirees for photos and spoke about the legacy retirees are leaving behind. “In the course of your work here, you have witnessed the comings and goings of many thousands of young people from across Canada and around the world, who are now contributing to society in every walk of life. Their success is due in no small part to your excellence and dedication. You have also been indispensible coaches and mentors to newer faculty and staff who have joined us during your tenure. The U of T community has come to rely upon your institutional memory, and your wisdom; you are truly invaluable and irreplaceable”.

This year, we were able to catch up with some of our retirees before the reception, and speak to them about their careers at the University, their plans for the future, and their favourite memories of U of T. You can read their profiles here:
