The importance of HR is easily overlooked in the busy day-to-day of the workplace. From getting paid on time to planning for a family, the work of any HR team is (often) as impactful as it is invisible.
The collective efforts of U of T’s HR function impacts the livelihoods of the 20,000 people who work at the University, and by extension, their families and dependents. The HRE Awards of Distinction is an incredible opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the people who make U of T a great place to work.
As the second annual HRE Awards of Distinction nomination window is now open until the end of the month, past nominators reflect on the importance of acknowledging the exceptional contributions of their HR colleagues.
“Our many initiatives, programs and policies are rolled out with the primary purpose of enhancing the employee experience,” says Hayley Fuller, Communications & Change Manager, HR & Equity. “I am acutely aware of everything that goes on behind the scenes to ensure their success, and wanted to say thanks in a public way.”
Last year, Hayley nominated the HRIS team’s Sheryl Vitug for her pivotal work improving critical HRIS projects and processes. Professor Kelly Hannah-Moffat, Vice-President, Human Resources & Equity, presented the 2018 awards to the winning HR team and individual recipients at a luncheon reception in January 2019.
“Openly expressing how much we value one another’s contributions helps to advance a culture of gratitude and inclusion that makes U of T a great place to work and learn for everyone,” says Tom Spence, Employee Recognition & Engagement Advisor. “There’s a strong sense of appreciation within our community and we think it’s important to celebrate.”
The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, September 27th, 2019 through the True Blue Recognition Platform.
The HRE Awards of Distinction were established in 2018 to provide HR staff with an opportunity to recognize individuals or teams that exemplify the Division’s values and performed outstanding work throughout the year. The award allows HR professionals to recognize individual HR professionals and HR teams who exemplify the values of the Division of HR & Equity, and who contribute in a variety of outstanding ways to the mission of the University. It also invites all members of the U of T community to nominate HR professionals as the “HR Team of the Year”.
The program is part of building a Recognition and Engagement strategy that advances the University’s mission and enhances the University experience for the entire community.
